Frequently Asked Questions

When should I first bring my child to the dentist?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends bringing your child in for their first dental appointment as soon as their first tooth erupts, but no later than their first birthday.

What is the difference between a pediatric dentist and a general dentist who treats children?

While any dentist is able to call themselves a children’s dentist, pediatric dentists go through a customized  additional residency program, typically between two and three years, after dental school. During this extra training, they obtain the skills to treat developing smiles for infants, children and teens and work with patients who have complex medical, dental and special healthcare needs. Dr.Takiar completed her speciality pediatric residency at the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine and thereafter became board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

My child is anxious about visiting the dentist. Can you help them feel more comfortable?

In many cases, our fun, interactive, and unique dental experience is enough to break the ice for especially anxious or nervous children who typically do not feel comfortable visiting the dentist. And at our first visit, we try to at least obtain a dental examination within comfortable limits of what your child will allow. However, if that is not the case and your child is still fearful, we can review the various dental sedation options available to determine how we can provide a more comfortable and positive experience.

Do you accept dental insurance?

Yes! We are proud to be in-network with most major PPO dental insurance plans and even offer our Tooth Clues Membership Plan for those who are uninsured. If you are unsure if we participate with your insurance plan, please give us a call and we will be happy to answer any questions.

Does my child’s dental crown have to be made from metal?

We offer both stainless steel (silver) and zirconia (white) dental crowns at Tooth Clues - The Dental Detective for Kids. We will review our recommendations with you at your visit so you can make an informed decision of what is best for your child.

What should I do if my child has a dental emergency?

If your child is experiencing dental pain, has damaged or chipped a tooth, or has knocked out a tooth due to trauma, please call our Leesburg pediatric dental office immediately. Agent T offers same-day, after-hours, and weekend emergency dental appointments for all your child’s immediate needs.
